About

Robert S. Campbell “Steve” as he is known by family and friends was raised on a farm in Harford County, Maryland. Although it was a small vegetable truck farm with thirty head of dairy cattle it was big enough to instill in him a positive work ethic.  Being the oldest of three children in a single parent household responsibility was introduced early and would be the benchmark he would live his life by.

At the age of seventeen Steve joined the United States Army, and would celebrate his nineteenth birthday as a Company Medic in Vietnam.  If asked he will tell you without embellishment, that he was proud to serve, and grateful to come home in one piece.

For over 20 years whether paid or volunteering you could find Steve working as a firefighter/Paramedic in and around Baltimore, Maryland.  In his off hours he would teach at the University of Maryland, for the Fire Extension Service.  His community service would extend to other organizations such as the International Association of Firefighters, the Red Cross, as the American Heart Association, Chairman, and the Loyal Order of Moose; a membership he still maintains to this day.

In 1993 after raising two children as a single parent on the East Coast, Steve traveled west to fulfill his dream of completing his degree.  As a non-traditional student he would earn a Bachelors Degree in Psychology with honors, a Masters in Education, and met and married Rhonda Campbell, his wife of thirteen years.

After graduation having accepted a position as a DARS Counselor for the state of Texas; Steve, his wife Rhonda and their Granddaughter Jordan would follow the example of many West Texan ancestors and set down roots in Big Spring, TX where he is currently an active member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church.  After retirement in 2004 Steve took on another very important job working as the stay- a- home dad while he and his wife raise their ten year old granddaughter Jordan.

Steve has a vested interest in Big Spring and has seen through the years how one man with a little hard work can make a large difference in the lives of others.  He may not change the world, but he will surely make a positive dent in it.
